SIMPLE LIFE

(how to be happy with what you have)

For my self-directed study I am investigating the theme of 'Simplicity' and 'Contentment'... How dependent are we on all the conveniences and luxuries of the modern world, and do they actually make us any happier?

A lecture by Dan Gilbert HERE investigates the idea that we can synthesise happiness and that, in the long run our situation has little effect upon our overall happiness.

If you threw away everything you owned, how quickly would you be able to accept your new situation and learn to be happy without missing anything you lost?

This book is an investigation into trying to identify your most important possessions, and challenges your dependence on them

Over Summer started mucking about with the idea of a clothing brand based around a large collection of vintage photographs I've been building up over the last couple of years. Heres as far as things have got...

PRINTED AND BOUND

Finished! The book is divided into four chapters: Lonely, Trapped, Low Self-Esteem and Fear. Each chapter then has flowcharts guiding you through overcoming that problem, and then some real life stories around each theme. In the end I ditched the black backgrounds, they were too much like an 80s video game.

Loved how simple perfect binding is...

FWD-RWD

Book is basically finished, just the absolute headache of trying to get it printed now. Heres the chapter tackling loneliness. Hope it works for you! This is probably the most pure-graphics thing Ive ever made...

FWD-RWD

This is a whole new project! Taking the starting point of "Forward-Rewind" I shall be asking people to:
1) tell me a time when they were bold, brave, adventurous or spontaneous
2) tell me a time they wish they could rewind to and change what they did or didnt do.

The answers will be collated into a book, which aims to act as an inspirational read to get people to face up to their fears and not look back with a head full of regrets.

Starting up a blog soon, and ill be pestering all of you for answers!

P.S. Rosy if you see this, sorry I've used triangles it was just going that way x

From here to there

Just a bit of developmental work for the shipping forecast project. I might actually prefer the original sketches...

Let radio waves take you out to sea...

Response to the Shipping Forecast, the radio programme transports you to the ocean from the comfort of your own bed.

Mutoscope

Mutoscopes are those old machines you used to get where you put a coin into a machine and turned a handle to see a series of pictures in sequence. As part of a uni project we had to find a way to present 50 photographs we had taken. Instead of making a book or poster I wanted to make something 3D.

Its quite fun to swoosh around and end up with a random photo.
